A Day Trip at Residences at Chestnut Ridge

October 1, 2020

Our residents have the opportunity to take advantage of many activities. From cooking classes, art classes, movie nights, and daily socials, we provide a socially engaging community for our residents each day.

Residences at Chestnut Ridge is surrounded by a community filled with family-friendly activities for our residents, as well as their visiting families. Wallingford is filled with history and beauty, and is just 15 miles southwest of Philadelphia.

One of our favorite places to visit is The Taylor Memorial Arboretum, especially during the Fall! The Arboretum is a 30 acre botanical garden specializing in trees that is nestled in our backyard, and only a quick ten minute walk from Residences at Chestnut Ridge. The Arboretum stretches along Ridley Creek surrounded by a variety of flora and fauna, providing gorgeous views and socially distant trails to walk.

The Taylor Memorial Arboretum was established in 1931 by Joshua C. Taylor. The Arboretum is now maintained by Widener University. The close proximity to Residences at Chestnut Ridge makes the Arboretum a great day trip for visiting friends and family.

The Arboretum features plants on the grounds that were planted in the 1950’s and have been maintained ever since. In recent years, plants that are native to the Pennsylvania area have been planted, including viburnums and shadbush.

Taylor Memorial Arboretum and Research

The Arboretum also provides expansive opportunities for students, faculty, and the community for conservation research. The research that has occurred at the Arboretum has included plant and animal life research and water quality studies. This research helps promote sustainability for our environment.

The Arboretum is open to the public daily from 9 AM-4 PM.
